Summary

From #1 bestselling author Brandon Sanderson comes the beautifully designed Mistborn Boxed Set I, collecting his thrilling trilogy。

Mistborn:
For a thousand years, the ash has fallen and no flowers have bloomed。 For a thousand years, the Skaa have slaved in misery and lived in fear。 For a thousand years, the Lord Ruler has reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror。 Until Kelsier, a brilliant half-Skaa thief and natural leader, finds in himself the powers of a Mistborn, and turns his talents to the ultimate caper, with the Lord Ruler himself as the mark。

The Well of Ascension:
The impossible task has been accomplished。 The Lord Ruler has been vanquished。 But with Kelsier dead, too, the awesome task of building a new world has been left to former street urchin and Kelsier's protégé Vin, who is now the most powerful Mistborn in the land。 Vin is now worshipped as a hero in her own right, but she is haunted by a strange vaporous entity hidden in the mists。

The Hero of Ages:
Having escaped death only by becoming a Mistborn himself, Emperor Elend Venture now hopes to find clues left behind by the Lord Ruler that will allow him to save the world。 But with the return of lethal mists, increasingly heavy ashfalls, and ever more powerful earthquakes, Elend and Vin aren't sure that killing the Lord Ruler to end the Final Empire was the right thing to do after all。

Uma série de fantasia realmente muito boa, com personagens memoráveis e uma história envolvente。

I would like to start off by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed this series。 However, I will begin with my minor complaints first (in no particular order), then end on a positive note。 My first complaint for the series is that the pacing is all over the place from book to book, with the first and last books having relatively fast paced plots and lots of action, while book two has slow-burning political intrigue at the heart of its plot。 This didn’t bother m SPOILERS FOR ALL THREE BOOKS!!!!!!!!!!! I would like to start off by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed this series。 However, I will begin with my minor complaints first (in no particular order), then end on a positive note。 My first complaint for the series is that the pacing is all over the place from book to book, with the first and last books having relatively fast paced plots and lots of action, while book two has slow-burning political intrigue at the heart of its plot。 This didn’t bother me too much, but I could see how it might bother some readers。 Next this book doesn’t have that many diverse or female characters (excluding the main character Vin/Tindwyl), which is an aspect of fantasy which Sanderson has gotten significantly better at in recent years。 This is less of a complaint (because diversity in particular just isn’t mentioned and you can imagine the characters as you like) but more of a missed opportunity。 My final complaint is that religion (specifically relating to animals and atheism) isn’t handled all that well; there is a lot of interesting discussions about value in other religions and martyrdom, but the value/benefits of atheism are neglected and animals in this universe are seen as not having the same type of spirit as humans (humans have an extra amount of Preservation compared to animals)。 Now, on to my favorite parts about this series! My absolute favorite thing about Mistborn has got to be the magic systems。 All three of them, Allomancy, Feruchemy, and Hemalurgy, are exquisitely well done and open up many possibilities for interesting combinations of powers and action scenes (especially duralumin from book 2)。 My favorite aspect of these systems is that they are airtight and fully explained with rules and methodologies that only make more sense as you go on。 Additionally, the world building and plotting are also both airtight, with almost every aspect of the story and world being discreetly foreshadowed in one way or another (which I assume would make for great re-reads)。 The characters too are interesting and complex, and I enjoyed the pace at which we learned their backstories。 As for some other comments, the blurbs at the start of chapters in this series always prove more interesting than they first seem and the attention to detail of this whole world of scadriel is astonishing (including the planetary position of the world itself)。 Overall, Misborn era 1 is an excellent fantasy trilogy that I would feel comfortable recommending to almost everyone, and the world-building, plotting, characters, and magic system are so well done that they overshadow any minor gripes。 。。。more

Le pongo cuatro estrellas porque el principio de este libro se me ha hecho muy pesado comparado con el anterior pero MADRE MÍA, una vez más Brandon Sanderson no me ha defraudado。

Standing atop a melted city overlooking a dessert oasis is Siwa, Egypt; watching the inundation of heavy summer rains rush through Krka, Croatia and getting to the end of stories written by Brandon Sanderson are some of the things that leave me with the expansive, satisfied feeling that the there are things in this world that are just exactly what they need to be。 And as I write this, I am struck by the poetry of how ruin and preservation play their parts in each。

My first fantasy novel and I loved it。

An epic fantasy journey over 2000 pages。 A solid 3-star effort, of classic good vs evil, heros and villains, and magic, with the predictable but must-have of all fantasy epics, the alls-well-that ends-well ending。

Incredible series。 Added to my list of favorite for sure! These books are so well written I’m in awe。 It’s as thorough as JR Tolkien was in his creation of the world and as entertaining as an action movie。 You have to read this one!

Incredible world building, as always。 The writing style does feel slightly younger but the story and setting are phenomenal。 I've never known a male author to write a female character in such a wholistic way。 Incredible world building, as always。 The writing style does feel slightly younger but the story and setting are phenomenal。 I've never known a male author to write a female character in such a wholistic way。 。。。more

A grand series。 One about leaders, balance, change and love。 I had small problems with the first two books but by the third I was engulfed by the story ark and the writing style。 Highly recommend。

I absolutely loved this trilogy, from beginning to end。It has the most complex yet amazing magic systems I have ever seen in a fantasy novel。 The rules are clear and the powers are managed in a delicate way- one is never too powerful for the plot to get boring。 What's most fascinating is that there are actually three magic systems instead of one- Allomancy, Feruchemy, and Hemalurgy。 The characters' identities as Allomancers and Feruchemists and actually add to their personality and development ( I absolutely loved this trilogy, from beginning to end。It has the most complex yet amazing magic systems I have ever seen in a fantasy novel。 The rules are clear and the powers are managed in a delicate way- one is never too powerful for the plot to get boring。 What's most fascinating is that there are actually three magic systems instead of one- Allomancy, Feruchemy, and Hemalurgy。 The characters' identities as Allomancers and Feruchemists and actually add to their personality and development (in both good and evil ways), unlike some poorly executed novels when the magic powers are either nothing or too much- it basically makes up the character itself。 A magic power in good fantasy is supposed to blend in and harmonize, not consume and certainly not become the character itself。 Brandon Sanderson managed this perfectly。 The character development is amazing and jaw-dropping, too。 I especially adored Vin's journey, how she became less frightened and jumpy as the plot goes on, how she learns from accidents and losses (Brandon Sanderson is certainly not afraid to give us that ), and how she embraces her love- her desires, her inner self, and her eventual end all made me shake my head in awe。 She is, and will for ever be, one of my favorite heroines of all time。Most important thing is, the characters are real 。 They're not crazily fearless or lovestruck airheads, they're just like us。 Not heroes, but normal people with too many responsibilities dumped on them。 They fight, they cry, and they break。 There is nothing more beautiful to see。The world building as well at the plot itself is flawless。 Detailed but not boring at all。 Somehow everything told- every piece of information, every small detail- is necessary, and adds to the magnificent storyline, unlike some books which just continuously provide you with unnecessary details and info-dump。 Mistborn gives none of that- everything is on point。 I can see what the characters see, feel the warmth and smell the rain。 There are no inconsistencies and everything just makes perfect sense。 Their actions are never too emotional/dramatic nor do they act on logic alone。 The ending, too, is heartbreaking but beyond truthful。 It's what happens, you see。 It's the best that could happen。 There can never be a true happy ending。I'll wrap it here, because I just can't seem to put this trilogy's awesomeness into words properly。 But buy this。 Read this。 Dive into this immediately。 You will not be disappointed。 。。。more

I loved this trilogy。 It has unique magic system based on metals。 If this is made into a Hollywood movie, people would go crazy。 Brandon Sanderson is a genius。 He set a standard in fantasy genre。 Other fantasy authors will find it very difficult to compete with this guy。 I would like to know if there is any fantasy author who has the potential to compete with Brandon Sanderson。

Mistborn trilogy was the first Brandon Sanderson's work I've read and I was actually surprised by how much I liked it。It's definitelly not my taste, it's too YAish to me, I didn't like most of the characters, I didn't enjoy the romance and I think these books could be cut in half - there was a lot of unnecessary fluff in them。 I'm also not the biggest fan of hard magic systems, but I don't mind them, when they are executed well and Mistborn's magic system might the best example of that。However, Mistborn trilogy was the first Brandon Sanderson's work I've read and I was actually surprised by how much I liked it。It's definitelly not my taste, it's too YAish to me, I didn't like most of the characters, I didn't enjoy the romance and I think these books could be cut in half - there was a lot of unnecessary fluff in them。 I'm also not the biggest fan of hard magic systems, but I don't mind them, when they are executed well and Mistborn's magic system might the best example of that。However, the plot and worldbuilding in this trilogy was interesting enough for me to keep reading and enjoying it。 And I have to say, endings of all three books are absolute killers。 I also find Sanderson's prose and overall writing style to be briliant。I would rate still series solid 7/10。 I liked it and I can see this being favorite fantasy series of some people, especially younger readers。 It's just not my taste。 。。。more

I'd describe this as very good, although not as good as The Way of Kings or Sanderson's entries in The Wheel of Time。 The characters are excellent, and the plot, whilst I guessed what would happen, is also very good。 Unfortunately, and much to my surprise, the main thing that let it down was the description of the magic system。 To be clear, the magic system is meticulously thought-out and really interesting。 But Mr Sanderson tends to describe how each action is achieved in great detail by refere I'd describe this as very good, although not as good as The Way of Kings or Sanderson's entries in The Wheel of Time。 The characters are excellent, and the plot, whilst I guessed what would happen, is also very good。 Unfortunately, and much to my surprise, the main thing that let it down was the description of the magic system。 To be clear, the magic system is meticulously thought-out and really interesting。 But Mr Sanderson tends to describe how each action is achieved in great detail by referencing the different metals applied。 It shows a level of forethought and care that is part of what makes him such a great author, but it does wear you out a bit by the end。 This is one of those rare occasions where I'd actually like to have had a bit less detail。 But still, it's a fantastic read。 。。。more

Excellent story but large portions were unnecessarily stretched as if to somehow ge a trilogy out of what would have been a great single。 I loved the story so 5 * for that。 But the conflicts were too drawn out and I found myself skipping bunches of pages at a stretch。 The fight sequences felt repetitive and monotonous。 Vin was irritatingly "gallant"。 I liked Elend, Sez and TanSoon。 Excellent story but large portions were unnecessarily stretched as if to somehow ge a trilogy out of what would have been a great single。 I loved the story so 5 * for that。 But the conflicts were too drawn out and I found myself skipping bunches of pages at a stretch。 The fight sequences felt repetitive and monotonous。 Vin was irritatingly "gallant"。 I liked Elend, Sez and TanSoon。 。。。more
